Pretty Pansies…

My small suburban garden remains devoid of much colour at all, despite it being mid-June. The red jasmine has started to flower (much to the bumble bees delight) but there are noticeably less blooms this year than last year. There are a few flowers on the thyme and one tiny, dark blue lobelia flower but …

Quick! Before it Snows Again!!…

A lull in the truly awful weather saw me rushing around trying to do 101 things at once in my small suburban garden this afternoon. The sun was out (or at least I think it was the sun – been so long since I last saw it I’ve forgotten what it looks like), but there …

Simply The Best…

I rarely comment on my front garden as I generally simply spray weed-killer between the paving slabs and on anything attempting to grow in 3 of the 4 borders, and not a lot else. However, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – I’m HUGELY impressed by my 30p pansies! Not only have they survived …

Bargain!…

I rarely comment on my front garden as I generally don’t plant anything out there, however, a month ago Tescos were selling trays of 20 pansies at just 30p (they looked half-dead but I figured even if just 5 plants survived it’d be worth it) along with large potted chrysanthemums at just 50p each (really …

Chilly Christmas…

Chilly Christmas...

Winter has definitely arrived, with a bitter chill in the air. I guess it won’t be long before we get a serious overnight frost, so I’ll make the most of the lobelias, geraniums and pansies while I can. Despite the cold, we’ve still had no significant rainfall for months, and I still have to brave the cold to go out and water the tubs and borders on a regular basis…

The Calm Before The Storm?

Much as I’m loving this Global Warming, I’m starting to wonder if this is simply the calm before the storm? Yes, it’s glorious to be outside in the sunshine on 19th November, and the sight of lobelias still in bloom gladdens the heart no end, but I fear that Mother Nature may have a sting …

Indian Summer…

It’s official – it’s the hottest October since 1985 and I’m loving it! We’ve had several gloriously hot days in a row and the weather’s currently making up for the somewhat meadiocre summer we’ve had this year, however, the plants seem flummoxed and while trees are dropping their leaves all around, certain shrubs and flowers …

Vitamin D Day…

What glorious weather we’re having right now! Despite the leaves on the ground, and other clear signs that autumn is imminent, the sun is shining, the sky is blue and the clouds are white and fluffy. In a bid to disguise the gaps in my borders where I pulled up my disappointing petunias a couple …
